The BLUE-GREENWAY addresses the interconnected sea-land challenges in coastal areas related to nutrient pollution resulting from land-based and other pollution sources and leading to the creation of eutrophic and anoxic coastal ecosystems (sea). It focuses on managing eutrophication from diffuse sources through the implementation of green contracts. Its main objective is to develop and promote the implementation of good practices through a dual approach.

Firstly, short-term protection measures are developed against the pollution of fresh waters and, by extension, the sea, through monitoring and the use of nutrient load reduction systems.

Secondly, an electronic green procurement system has been developed which applies green criteria consistent with EU and international regulations and standards. The system facilitates the purchasing of environmentally friendly products and promotes transnational eco-innovation achieve a greener “GREENWAY” economy.

The project is coordinated by the University of Patra. From Cyprus, ATLANTIS Environment and Innovation Ltd participates as expert partner.
